What happens after you build a business and it starts taking over your life?

You start searching for answers and most business experts talk about two stages, starting a business and scaling a business. And there's so many successful women business owners find themselves wondering if scaling is right for them.

Better yet, what is scaling? Nobody talks about a stage between those two.

Hey, Ann Rusnak here, your host of Sailing to Unstoppable Success.

You've moved past the beginner stage of your business.

You already found clients.

You already built a business.

You already proved you can make money

Yet every day feels harder than it should.

Everything you hear about scaling sounds vague and overwhelming. So let's do some business talk here.

So what is scaling? Well, it refers to increasing revenue without significantly increasing cost and hours.

Now, that sounds great, especially since your business is at that level where it's taking over. And how does this happen?

It happens by improving efficiency and leveraging your existing resources. In other words, it requires a lot of automation, systems, processes, and even teams. You're exhausted just trying to keep up with business demands, let alone doing the work required to scale.

So today, I want to talk about the stage you're in right now, that in-between stage.

I call it the emerging stage. That's the stage between startup and scaling.

Remember back when you started your business. Think about the dreams of freedom, flexibility, living the life you wanted, something a job could never give you.

I want you to feel back into that excitement, especially the day you landed your first client. You proved those naysayers wrong. You proved you have something people need, and they want it.

Then your business grew, more clients, more responsibility, more decisions, more stuff. And you probably wore every hat. You look like the CEO on paper, but in reality, the Chief of Everything Officer. Now, that works for a while, until you run out of hours in the day, and then the very habits that grew your business now run your life.

So of course you go looking for answers. You open YouTube. You begin to listen to podcasts. You're reading lots and lots of articles. You even take courses, and every bit of it points to one word: scaling. Hiring teams, building departments, creating complex systems, going for this massive scale, when right now all you can think about is you just want your life back.

See, you outgrew that startup world. Scale comes much later. You stand in the emerging stage, and that's where overwhelm and exhaustion are your reality, and your business keeps growing, yet your capacity to keep up with it didn't.

Now every success creates more work, more stuff to do, and I call that the Bottleneck of Stuff Syndrome, and this is the phase where it takes hold. Now, I'm gonna go into more detail about that in our next episode.

But you've reached a good place. You did everything right to get here, so congratulate yourself. Put a big smile on your face. In fact, pat yourself on the back

Most business experts teach just two stages, beginners or businesses chasing that massive scale, totally ignoring that in-between stage. And very few speak to women who built a thriving business and now feels trapped by her own success.

And right now, your business takes everything, your energy, your freedom, the excitement you felt at the start. Right now you feel invisible, like nobody understands what you're going through. That's why I created this podcast in the first place, for a successful woman like you drowning under the Bottleneck of Stuff Syndrome.

Women who want their life back without giving up that income and impact that they created. I've been there.

So let me tell you what the emerging stage really means, 'cause you're no longer in that startup stage. You are ready to emerge out from under the Bottleneck of Stuff Syndrome. And one of the first resources that you need to leverage before you can even begin about thinking about scaling is your time.

You're going to move from leveraging it instead of managing it. You're gonna develop a different relationship with time, a different way of growing your business. And with that, you're gonna begin to take your life back. Now, I want you to know something. Many successful women have stood exactly where you stand right now.

But so few people ever name or even acknowledge this stage. Yet you walk a path others walked before you, me included. I pushed so hard I collapsed from burnout, I wish someone would have told me about the stage between startup and scaling.

You actually stand at the exciting point in your business. So join me on the next episode. I'm going to do a deep dive into that bottleneck of stuff syndrome and how to emerge from under those piles of stuff and ongoing demands so you can enjoy your business again
